FID - Flexible Instructional Day

What can I do to make sure my student is successful with their Flexible Instruction Day?

The Flexible Instructional Day Program (FID) is new for Central Columbia School District and the teachers.
Our number one goal with FIDs is to make sure your student continues to learn and is safe from the hazards
of inclement weather. With a new process, there will be many things your student can share their learning
and demonstrate success, but there will also be some areas of improvement for the whole system. When
students return to school, there will be an opportunity for the home and students to share their strengths and
needs for improvement in regard to the FID.

How will my students get the FID assignments that they need to complete at home?

Teachers will have FID Lessons for your student loaded in the Google Classroom, other learning management systems, or will be provided with hard copies.  Prior to leaving the school building, students will receive the necessary resources to complete their work at home on their iPad.   There will be some lessons that will have videos or other media. Teachers will work with the students to have this information downloaded to their iPad prior to leaving the school for the day.  If students do not have the Internet, they can still complete the FID Lesson(s), and upload/sync their work when they return to school or use the Google Classroom App for Android and Apple from a cell phone.

How many lessons will my student need to complete?

Elementary – Each teacher will provide a lesson/assignment per subject. Middle/High School - Each teacher will post a lesson/assignment per class period for each FID.

How can we work with the teacher? Technology support?

Teachers will be available throughout the normal school day hours to assist students during a FID.  Elementary hours are 8:15-3:45 and middle school/high school hours are 7:15-2:45.  During these hours, the teacher will be accessible through a line of communication (email, Google Classroom, Remind, Seesaw, etc.). Another option would be the utilization of the school phone system.  Students or guardians could leave messages at (570) 784-2850 followed by the teacher’s direct extension.  Students would leave a detailed message requesting assistance and providing a call back number. Technology support is also available, use extension 5050.

What is my student’s responsibility?

How long do the students have to make up the FID Lesson(s) assigned on inclement weather days? Students are expected to complete the FID Lesson(s) assigned by their teachers. FIDs are about extending instruction outside of the school building and continuing learning. Students have TWO school days to complete their make-up work.  The TWO days will begin on the returning day. (Ex: Students return on Tuesday. The FID Lesson(s) would be due by Thursday.)

What if the student does not complete the FID Lesson(s) on the weather days AND did not complete the work after the two days make up period?

Students who did not complete the FID Lesson on the inclement weather day(s) and two school days have passed, the student will be marked absent.
