SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS

2007-2008

 

1.                  Coca-Cola Scholars Program – Selection Criteria:  Selection of Coco-Cola Scholars is based on a number of factors, with special emphasis on each individual’s character,  personal merit, and background.  Merit is demonstrated in a variety of ways:  leadership in school, civic and other extra-curricular activities;  academic achievement; and motivation to serve and succeed in all endeavors.   Submit your application by going to www.coca-colascholars.org.  The application deadline is October 31. Candidacy Materials will be mailed to 1500-2000 semifinalists in mid DecemberApplicants who are not selected as Semifinalists will not be notified.  Finalists will be notified in early March and the National Competition will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, during April.  Completed Applications should be Box 1615, Atlanta, GA  30301-1615.

 

2.                  American Red Cross -  The High School Challenge Program is designed to encourage high school students to participate in their school blood drive.  $6,000 in scholarships will be awarded in 2008.   For additional information contact Michael J. 3.                  Marywood University and Junior Achievement NEPA invite Central Columbia Senior High School students to apply for a grant of up to $1,000  toward a service project that they believe will benefit their community. For more information contact www.NetImpactNEPA.org

 

4.                  Pennsylvania Elks State Association – Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 2008-2009 Academic Year Scholarship/Leadership “Most Valuable Student” Program. Applications can be downloaded online at www.elks.org.  The Pa contest is open to students in the high school graduating class of 2007-2008 and is for the academic year 2008-2009.  The scholarships are for one year only with the exception of the top 250 boys and 250 girls nationally who will be eligible for the Special Four-Year Awards.  All applications must be filed with the ELKS LODGE having jurisdiction in the area in which the student has legal residence, and must be filed not later than JANUARY 11, 2008.

 

5.                  Ithaca College, Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar Program is open to academically talented students from ethnic and racial backgrounds that have been historically underrepresented in American higher education. Receive up to full tuition in aid, with a minimum merit-based scholarship of $18,000. Complete the application form, which includes an essay on the significance of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s, 1963 letter from the Birmingham city jail, and send it to the Office of Admission by January 15. The recommendation form needs to be completed by someone who can tell us about your leadership, academic and service experiences.  That person needs to return the form to the Office of Admission by January 15.  The Ithaca College application should be complete and on file in the Office of Admission no later than February 1.

 

6.                  Pencon Foundation 2008 Scholarship Announcement – Scholarships in 2007 ranged from $250 to $1750 annually for four years for high school seniors enrolling in post secondary education.  Applications can be downloaded from www.pencon.org

 

7.                  American Association of University Women Anthracite Branch Award – the Anthracite Branch AAUW has one competitive award of $500 for which current high school seniors planning to attend college upon graduation may apply.  Only one student from the Anthracite Branch region will win this award.  The application is due by February 15, 2008.

 

8.                  Saint Vincent College – Wimmer Scholarship Competition – recognition and substantial financial awards will be given to high school seniors who have achieved academic success as evidenced by a grade-point-average of at least 3.25 or higher.  The competition offers a top prize of a full tuition, room and board scholarship.  Second through fifth place winners receive a full tuition scholarship.  The competition is comprised of an exam that includes subject matter in English, Mathematics and general knowledge.  Prospective students must complete the exam on campus in a set period of time. The nomination deadline is November 2, 2007 for the November 17, 2007 competition.

 

9.                  Fashion Institute of Technology – Presidential Scholars program.  This exciting honors program offers outstanding students the opportunity to explore New York City and participate in stimulating colloquia and advanced liberal arts classes taught by some of the college’s finest instructors.  Competitive admission to this program is based on SAT scores, class rank, and high school GPA.

 

10.             Burger King Scholars Program – Burger King Scholars awards are $1,000 each and may be used for educational expenses, such as tuition fees and books, during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school.  For a student to qualify, he/she must be a high school senior and a U.S. resident that meets our criteria.  Information can be obtained at www.bk.com/scholars.   Applications are available online from October 15, 2007 – February 15, 2008.  Last day to submit applications is by postmark deadline, February 15, 2008.

 

11.             United Steelworkers – District 10 -  $24,000 Scholarship Program in memory of Hugh Carcella – six, 4 year scholarships, each with a total value of $4,000 ($1,000 per year), will be awarded in June, 2008. An applicant must be a member in good standing, or the son or daughter or legal ward of a member of a United Steelworkers’ union.  Applications may be obtained, upon request, from participating local unions.  Applicants will fill out the application form giving all required information.  No application will be accepted unless properly signed by the President and Recording Secretary of the respective local union.   Applications must be postmarked no later than midnight, March 15, 2008.

 

12.             PSECU Scholarship Funds – to qualify students must be a PSECU member by Friday, December 28, 2007.  Students who are PSECU members must contact us for a scholarship application.  They must call us at 800-237-7328 nationwide or 234-8484 in the Harrisburg area.  Upon completing the packet mail it no later than noon on Friday, February 29, 2008.

 

13.             National Organization of The American Legion – The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program you are eligible to participate in The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program if you are a citizen or a lawful resident of the United States.  Students must be enrolled in high school or junior high school during the time of participation at any level of the contest.  For more information contact your local American Legion Post or State Headquarters.  A listing of State Headquarters’ addresses and phone numbers can be found on the Legion Web site at www.legion.org

 

14.      Soccer Booster's Scholarship- senior boys and girls soccer players applications are available in the guidance

            office.  Application is due 11/12/07!

  

 15.  JCI Scholarship Program- PA JCI Senate is an organization affiliated with the Jaycees that sponsors two $500.00 scholarships for PA seniors.  The scholarship is available on-line at :  www.usjcisenate.org/pa postmarked no later than January9.

 

 16.  Central Susquehanna Community Foundation -Berwick Health & Wellness, Walter & Florence Vorbleski

  scholarships for seniors majoring in Health related fields and residing within the 23 townships & boroughs of the greater Berwick are available on-line at www.csgiving .org and also in the guidance office.

 

17.  The Central Columbia Education Association is sponsoring scholarships to students majoring in the Education or Health fields.  Applications are available in the guidance office.
