MIDDLE SCHOOL PROJECT:
We have received final approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to proceed on the middle school project.  We anticipate the construction will begin Monday, September 19.

Areas of new construction behind and in front of the building will be fenced off.  In addition a construction access road is to be built from the bus lane to the back of the building along the east edge of the building.  We are strongly encouraging construction vehicles to enter the campus on Blue Jay Drive from Keefer’s Lane.  Construction vehicles will proceed to the stop sign at the end of the MS/HS bus lane, turn right onto the bus lane, then right again onto the construction road (this will make more sense once the construction access road is built).

UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN:
Campaign chairman Tony DaRe reports that, as of this writing, the United Way campaign stands as follows:

  • Elementary School - 55 contributors -$3,569.50
  • Middle School - 39 contributors - $2,488
  • High School - 39 contributors - $3,579
  • District Office -16 contributors - $1,510
  • Total:  129 contributors - $11,146.50

These totals represent a nearly 20% increase in pledges and 30 new donors over last year.  Thank you to all who have contributed.  Your generosity will help youth programs, elderly programs, health care programs and, in general, our fellow community members in need.

Those persons who have not yet handed in their pledge card should see their building representative soon.  Building reps are: Karen Maciejewski (ES), Nancee Weirman (MS), Susan Repasky (HS), and Brenda Belles (DO).  Your pledge can be withheld through payroll deduction.  Withholdings would begin in January and may be as little as $1 per pay.

EXTRA/CO-CURRICULAR EVENTS:
In addition to the start of the academic year, extra and co-curricular activities are in full swing.  Many students from 7th-12th grades are participating in band, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, girls junior high basketball, golf, soccer, and tennis.  The kids love seeing fans in attendance at events, particularly teachers and staff from the schools.  If you have some time, please take a few moments to support our student athletes.

DID YOU KNOW?:
On May 9, 1864, Major General John Sedgwick, Commander of the Sixth Corps of the Army of the Potomac, in an attempt to calm his troops who were rattled by the shots of Confederate sharpshooters who were some distance off, stated, “They couldn’t hit an elephant at this distan…”  Sedgwick fell dead having been shot just under the left eye.
