Central Columbia Online Learning Academy FAQ
Does Central Columbia Online Learning Academy (CCOLA) cost anything to the parent? No. The Central Columbia Online Learning Academy is operated through the district, there is no cost to the parents.
What curriculum does Central Columbia Online Learning Academy use? The Central Columbia Online Learning Academy utilizes an online curriculum provided by Edgenuity that is aligned to the PA common core standards and has been cross-walked to align with the curriculum taught in our brick and mortar school
Are the teachers employed by Central Columbia? Yes! Courses in CCOLA are overseen by Central Columbia's highly qualified teachers and trained experts in our curriculum and are well prepared to facilitate online learning.
What grade levels are available? Central Columbia Online Learning Academy is offered as a cyber option for students in grades K-12.
Will the school district provide the computer equipment necessary for students to attend Central Columbia Online Learning Academy? The district has found that students are more successful using their own equipment because of the necessary protective software required by the school district. However, if this is not possible, the district will provide the equipment needed to receive online instruction
Is there an attendance policy, and if so, how will students be monitored? Central Columbia Online Learning Academy has the same expectations for course completion as it does for its brick and mortar students. Students in CCOLA will be monitored daily for lesson completion and course pacing.
What time and days do students need to log on? Central Columbia Online Learning Academy is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. While there are no daily time schedules, students are expected to keep pace with course completion timelines. These timelines are aligned to Central Columbia's marking periods and the 180 day school requirements.
How much time will students spend doing work? Students should expect to work for at least 5 to 7 hours per day on a typical 5-day school week. Teachers will encourage students to find and establish a consistent daily routine to help ensure success in the cyber academy.
Will students need textbooks? If any additional materials are required they will be provided for you.
Can students work at his/her own pace? Yes. The Central Columbia Online Learning Academy is an asynchronous learning model that allows for flexibility. While students may work at their own pace they are still monitored closely to ensure courses are completed following the school calendar.
Will students get a report card? Yes, students will receive a Central Columbia report card. All grades and credits for High School students will be reported to the High School for GPA and class ranking. In addition, students who complete the program will receive a Central Columbia diploma.
